Surgical Residency – Salary and Benefits

Residents at our program are paid a competitive relative to the low cost of living in Greenville, NC. The additional monthly meal allowance allows residents to live comfortably near the hospital and parking is free. A flat rate reimbursement for moving expenses, payment for the USMLE or COMLEX Step 3 exam fee, and allowance for lab coats on arrival are also provided.

Supplementing the salary is a generous benefit program is inclusive of health, life, disability, and dental insurance. Paid vacation of 15 weekdays plus a holiday break period and 12 days of paid sick leave round out the benefits.

The department supplements the benefits provided by GME with a $250 discretionary account for purchasing surgical educational materials individualized to your needs, the purchase of surgical loupes for Categorical PGY 2 residents, and support of travel for selected scholarly presentations or individualized training programs. Electronic journal and text access is provided through the ECU library.

Full salary and benefits continue for residents in their research year when taken in our program. Residents can elect to pursue opportunities outside our institution for their research year but must secure their own funding source to do so.
