Basic Sciences and Translational Research – About Us

Since the founding of the Department of Surgery at ECU, the department has been active in translational research. Translational research has been most often described as bench-to-bedside research – research that applies laboratory approaches and discoveries to clinical problems. As defined by the NIH, the translational continuum leads to advances in new drugs, assays, devices, behavioral and treatment interventions, educational materials and training.
